Abstract

Application of intelligent furnace cleaning at the STEAG Saarenergie Weiher Power Plant stopped production losses through coarse ash accumulated in the hopper. Furthermor, the waste gas temperature can be kept stable  and the maintenance and operating costs for the cleaning system were clearly reduced. This result is decisively attributable to the integrated cleaning system comprising diagnostics, optimization systems, control system and cleaning equipment.

Results at STEAG SaarEnergie KW Weiher III Power Plant

  • Stable waste gas temperature
  • Reduction of operating and maintenance costs
  • Avoidance of failures and production losses through coarse ash accumulation in the hopper

Since the optimized application of water cannons in conjunction with the FACOSTM optimization system failures and unscheduled boiler outages could completely be avoided.

Summary

The intelligent SMART Clean ISB PlatformCLEAN ISB PLATFORM comprising diagnostics, optimization system, control system and cleaning equipment has proved useful and has been accepted for cleaning furnaces of fossil-fired utility boilers.
Particularly in the case of varying coal quality or imported coal this cleaning technology enables flexible reaction to the respective operating conditions. The modular structure and possible retrofitting result in considerable economic benefits for the owner/operator.
The above results which were achieved through application of this innovative cleaning technology at the STEAG Saarenergie Weiher Power Plant clearly show the advantages for today's operation of a steam generator with varying requirements.

Regarding application and the functioning mode of this cleaning technology, comprehensive experience and measuring results are available from the existing installations in fossil-fired power plants.
The experiences of the plant owners/operators show that intelligent on-load cleaning in the furnace reduces the fouling tendency in the convection part and improves heat absorption so that further increases of steam generator efficiency can be achieved.
