Clyde Bergemann Power Group and RECOM Services pooling process engineering know-how for process optimization

Wesel/Germany, August 2008
Clyde Bergemann Power Group, the market-leading supplier of power plant equipment, and RECOM Services, the leading engineering company in simulation based boiler process analysis, have build up a cooperation. This is backed by a minority equity stake of Clyde Bergemann Power Group in RECOM Services. By combining their individual expertise, the aim of the cooperation is to gain and utilize enhanced process engineering know-how with regard to combustion processes in large-scale steam generators firing fossil fuels, biomass, refuse-derived fuel and fuel mixtures.
The combustion process is complex and subject to numerous influencing factors. Even minor changes in key process parameters can have large impacts on plant efficiency and availability. Based on comprehensive physical and chemical models, RECOM’s tailor-made software solutions are able to simulate the complete combustion process in detail and to predict the effects of changing parameters on efficiency, emissions, corrosion and deposit formation before they get real. As this simulation gives insight into the complex combustion process, it delivers the basis to control the process and, even more important, to optimize it.
These process insights do also support the application of the entire product range of the Clyde Bergemann Power Group, comprising systems for on-load boiler cleaning, ash handling, air pollution control as well as economizers and vacuum belt filters. Design, positioning and operation of these systems are directly and indirectly influenced by the combustion process. The Clyde Bergemann Power Group has already started some time ago to consider process engineering related interrelations in its research and development activities. Reason for this has been the awareness that the more the systems are aligned with process needs, the more they make a positive contribution to the plant efficiency and availability at reduced emission level. The linking with RECOM’s boiler process simulation know-how is a milestone in Clyde Bergemann’s development to operate their systems in a fully automatic and demand-driven mode. One output of this cooperation will be the installation and operation of on-load boiler cleaning equipment based on predicted boiler specific slagging and fouling characteristics.
